The San Antonio Scarf is made from vibrant cottons and are footloom woven in the San Antonio region of Guatemala. San Antonio is known for its colorful traditional costume. Traditionally, men were the only ones to operate a footloom, but these scarves are made by both men and women. The fringe is hand tied and the scarf is made with first quality thread. These lovely scarves are 12 inches wide and 62 inches long.
The San Juan Weaver’s Group in Guatemala spend up to two days weaving one scarf on their backstrap loom. The scarf is a mix of cotton and shiny rayon threads. The resulting color combinations are brilliant, creating a scarf so beautiful you will want to wear it everyday. The fabric is hand woven on the backstrap loom by the San Juan Weaver’s Group which is made up of Tz’utujil women who weave using backstrap Ikat, an ancient labor intensive technique of hand tying and dying threads in elaborate patterns. These lustrous scarves are 7 1/2 inches x 61 inches long.

Maya Traditions works with more than 100 Maya women in five established groups in rural villages. Predominantly working with women who do backstrap weaving, an ancient traditional art that women can do at home while caring for their families, Maya Traditions brings much needed income to poor regions of Guatemala. In addition, they work with a group of women crochet artisans, footloom weavers, and small family businesses.
